I absolutely LOVE this series. The characters are rich, full of life, and surprisingly relatable. I consumed this series through audiobooks, and I think that lends a bit to the overall feel for the book (if only because the names and places are all pronounced for you). I could not put this series down until I'd finished them all.This being the first of the series, you should know that it is a decently long series, 11 books to date. There is definitely romance to be found in each of the novels, but if you're looking for a love story, this isn't the book for you. The love between the characters is a pivotal point in each of the novels, but rather than it being the point of the stories, the love (romantic or otherwise) between the characters is what helps to shape the plot. These novels are filled with action and adventure, with a very interesting twist to European history as we know it. It takes on the perspective of the Welsh people, a perspective that has not been shared as commonly as others oppressed by the English throne, bringing to life the trials and activities of the Middle Ages.
For anyone looking to invest in an exciting new series, I definitely recommend. If you're looking for an audiobook series, DEFINITELY check this out. The narrator took some getting used to, initially, but the way she captures the characters and changes the tones and inflections in her voice is unbelievable!

I read this book several years! It had been recommended to me at the Outlander blog as something to read that I might enjoy while going through Droughtlande. We were waiting for the new season of Outlander the tv series!
Wow! Was I surprised! I absolutely fell in love with this series of books, the After Cilmeri series! I recieved Daughter in Time free on and bought Footsteps in Time at the same time! I read Daughter in Time immediately! I couldn't put it down! I read it all night long! Then, when done, I read Footsteps in Time, falling asleep here and there and picking it up after waking up and going on! Those 2 books hooked me on the After Cilmeri series. Sarah Woodbury and Diana Gabaldon, my favorite authors from that moment on! I have since read each book 14x's except the last one! I have read Shades of Time only once, but I just received it this AM and finished it this afternoon! I will most likely reread it tomorrow morning again! I just couldn't put it down! Need to go over it again probably several times!
The characters of Meg and Llewelyn are complete and filled out! The history that Ms. Woodbury puts into each character's time and place is so full and rich! I learned more about Mediveal Wales and England and that really pulled me into the story! I just fell for these charcters, their history, their romance, their family that came after them and how they lived in a paralle universe! Each book further into the series just was so unique and full! I truly love these characters and their stories! I truly hope you will try them and see if you don't love them also!

This time-travel book was different then others I've read in that Meg has a daughter that travels back in time with her...
The author's story telling enabled me to picture the surroundings, people & events which was awesome. I enjoyed Llewlyn's path to Meg & their love blooming, however, I was not ready for Meg & Anna to unintentionally go back to the future & my heart broke for Llewlyn.. I was looking for a Happy-Ever-After but got stomped... It appears that in order to see what happens next I have to purchased the next series of books... Hmm..
This series caught me up so much that I unhesitatingly bought the next two in the series and that's something for me! Prince Llewlyn comes across as a real person, so much so that I had to go and read up on Welsh history to find out about him. The book is a romance, but a lot more than that. Descriptions of the countryside of Wales and the people come naturally. A glimpse into the nobility and and lower castes of the time is fascinating, too. I recommend this book if you like any kind of history and enjoy a decent romance (all clean and good).
After reading 50,000+ books it took ticking me off to write about top-level storytelling. I liked the "book" very much, then I got to...the end? Whhhaat? No END. Books are relatively expensive. As a total book-aholic with decades of business troubleshooting experience, it is aggravating to read a book series comprised of incomplete "books". Whomever came up with this marketing tool is...a tool. Find a way to fix this disaster. As an insightful reader wrote, put the books back together (and make them flow)--don't be greedy and split up so-called books into coordinating book portions. I've never seen legitimate authors sample out their wares like partial recipes. Give me the whole picture. I'm embarrassed for the author--it's a disservice to her talent and obviously angers readers who care. I would buy all of her books if they were complete works just as I have over 50 authors complete works, but not like this...Look at Kathryn Le Veque, some of her early tomes are over 1,000 pages. Catherine Coulter, Julie Garwood, Lynn Kurland, Stephanie Laurens, Julie James, etc, etc have NEVER portioned out their works. Wow, English 101--have a beginning, middle, and end, then repeat for certain success. Again, this isn't like The Depression & listening to serials on the radio. We aren't in pre-school waiting for the teacher to finish reading a story for us. It's arrogant, rude, and extremely ignorant to treat readers like this. Do your job and give us REAL books that start and end as a stand alone work, then continue on with the next whole book. Cripes, it's not rocket science.
A great first book, can't wait to read the next. If you love historical romance novels this read is very special. Unlike others that can center on the sexual tension and explicit details, this book brings two people together slowly and authentically as they overcome their vast differences. Their love for one another transcending time.
